An 11-mile fundraising trek - taking in the beautiful countryside of the Abbey Line Trail

Join a special 11-mile trek to raise vital funds for dementia patients in West Herts.

On Sunday 5 October 2025, West Herts Hospitals Charity will be putting on The Memory Trail, a unique fundraising walk designed to enhance care for patients with dementia and delirium at Watford General Hospital

The event has been planned in partnership with the Abbey Line Community Rail Partnership, and will begin at St Albans City Hospital.

Participants will follow the Abbey Line Trail through the Hertfordshire countryside, finishing at Watford General Hospital.

Funds raised will be used to enhance the ward environment and create a dedicated activity room on Oxhey Ward. This new space will provide a wide range of therapeutic and stimulating activities, from arts and crafts and board games to music sessions and seated exercises, all designed to improve cognitive function, reduce anxiety, and enhance patients’ overall well-being.

The number of people living with dementia is growing each year, and this figure is expected to double in the next 30 years. It is estimated that 40 percent of people aged over 65 in general hospitals will be living with dementia. This growing need underscores the importance of initiatives like The Memory Trail.
