What’s on at the end of the line campaign launched

Online Campaign to get locals back discovering local attractions and events by train launched.

In a move to help get local residents back on track, the Abbey Line Community Rail Partnership is launching an awareness campaign  ‘What’s on at the end of the line?’ to support our local communities and train service via their ‘Abbey Line Days Out programme.

‘Abbey Line Days Out’ aims to inspire and encourage the local community and visitors to travel on the Abbey Line train, for exciting, fun, local outings and day trips.

The ‘What’s on at the end of the line?’ campaign is aimed at rediscovering and discovering what’s on at the end of the line at Watford and St Albans, the two major towns on the route and the hidden gems in-between.

To help with this, the Abbey Line Community Rail Partnership has produced an Abbey Days out leaflet with suggestions from locals that know it best; a dedicated page on their new website abbeylinecommunityrail.org.uk; beautiful illustrated posters and an exciting video featuring local attractions and international dance band JiveSwing. All of which will be revealed from 23rd to 29th  July and be available to view and watch on their website and social media and that of selected partners. The posters will also be displayed on selected ‘digital-boards’ in Watford town centre as well as the Abbey line Stations.

To mark the launch, the Partnership is also having a competition to win train tickets to explore the network via their twitter and Facebook pages @abbeylinecrp during those dates.

Edna Woname, Partnership Development Officer said ‘ we’re delighted to be able to promote attractions and events on our doorstep and encourage days out with friends and family by train as well as opportunities to explore scenic walking and cycling routes that our beautiful local countryside has to offer, such as the Abbey Line trail, commissioned by the Partnership in 2015 to promote scenic walks along the train route and healthy living. It has been a difficult year for many, which has included disruption to our local train service, but we are looking to encourage the community to use the available services with confidence and support our local economy too.

Elected Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor said, “With everyone being cooped up inside for so long, it’s more important than ever for us to get out there and explore what Watford and its surrounding areas have to offer. We’re so pleased to be working with the Abbey Line Community Rail Partnership, giving residents the opportunity to discover all the magical places that are tucked away across the region, over what looks to be a beautiful summer!”

Sarah Priestley, Watford Museum Curator said, ‘Watford Museum is thrilled to be part of this promotion celebrating local attractions. It’s very special for us to feature in the iconic poster and wonderful video as we’re welcoming visitors new and old to the museum’

Denise Parsons, St Albans BID said ‘The Abbey Line is a fantastic service connecting Watford Junction with St Albans in minutes.  Arriving in at the foothill of St Albans, you can easily access the historic Verulamium Park and our stunning Norman Cathedral. Then wander up the hill to our vibrant town centre and enjoy a fantastic array of independent and big-name shops, alfresco dining, and world-class traditional British pubs and the BID as a member of the Partnership proudly supports the campaign’.
