Another fun Abbey Line Day Out!

Last weekend we took the fantastic Passport to Leisure group out on a trip to London by Abbey Line train and on into Euston station.

This group of enthusiastic individuals with learning disabilities began their day with excitement, boarding the train at St Albans Abbey station, accompanied by dedicated support staff.

Our first stop was the Wellcome Collection – a free museum and library exploring health and human experience – situated just across the road from Euston station.

Here we marvelled at the fascinating exhibits, including the not-to-be-missed ‘Jason and the Adventure of 254’ exhibition by artist Jason Wilsher-Mills. This is a joyful exploration of the body, drawing on the artist’s experience of becoming disabled as a child.

The interactive and accessible displays at the Wellcome Collection ensured that everyone could engage with the exhibits in a meaningful way.

After a packed lunch, our group continued the adventure to Camley Street Natural Park – an urban wildlife haven amidst the bustle of the amazing Kings Cross area. This is only a short walk from Euston.

The gang had a chance to relax and socialise at the very reasonably priced café there and had a go at pond dipping – with staff on hand from the local wildlife trust to help identify the aquatic minibeasts we caught.

The day concluded with the return trip to St Albans, with the staff emphasizing the importance of such outings in promoting social inclusion and personal development.

The smiles on the Passport to Leisure group’s faces said it all!
