At Network Rail STEM Lab

Students from Futures Academy Watford took part in an exciting and interactive learning experience through a partnership between Abbey Line Community Rail Partnership (CRP) and Avanti West Coast’s Feel Good Futures project. During a visit to the Network Rail STEM Lab in Milton Keynes, students explored the world of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) while gaining valuable insight into the wide range of career opportunities available within the rail industry.

Through a series of hands-on activities and engaging challenges, students explored how STEM skills are used every day to design, maintain and operate the railway. From engineering and infrastructure to signalling, project management and technology, the session highlighted the many career pathways available within the sector.

Abbey Line CRP works closely with local schools and community partners to create opportunities that broaden horizons and support young people’s aspirations. By partnering with Feel Good Futures, the trip helped ensure that students could access meaningful experiences that build confidence, raise ambitions and introduce new possibilities for their future careers.

The students returned full of enthusiasm, having gained valuable knowledge about STEM subjects and a greater understanding of the diverse opportunities available within the rail industry.

Abbey Line CRP would like to thank Avanti West Coast and the Network Rail STEM Lab team for providing such an engaging and memorable experience, helping to inspire the railway professionals of tomorrow!
