Community Stakeholder Event 2025
Working together for safer, more confident travel
Today the Abbey Line Community Rail Partnership welcomed local community groups to a dynamic stakeholder event – to strengthen existing relationships and to explore how we can work with new groups.
Our Chair Steve Cavinder opened the day with a warm welcome, with Kate, the CRP officer following with an overview of who we are, what we do, and the constraints we face. We then shared our current priorities, which include improving accessibility, promoting sustainability, enhancing travel confidence for groups facing barriers to travel, and deepening community engagement.
Participants took part in a group exercise to reflect on these priorities and contribute their own ideas. Travel confidence – especially for those who feel anxious or uncertain about using trains – was a recurring topic, highlighting the need for continued support through initiatives like guided trips and awareness campaigns. Discussions honed into the importance of feeling safe while using public transport.
After a short break, we discussed practical ways for groups to get involved, from volunteering to co-developing projects that make rail travel more inclusive and reassuring. These efforts are already making a difference, and we’re excited to build on them together.
The event concluded with a summary of key insights, closing thanks from our Chair, and a chance to connect informally over lunch.
We’re grateful to everyone who joined us and look forward to continuing this journey – making the Abbey Line a safe, welcoming space for all.
