Learning what our wildlife needs to thrive, and how we can help them

Children from the UNICEF Rights Respecting group at Kingsway Junior School helped in the design of Garston Station Garden today.

Members of the Abbey Line Community Rail Partnership visited them at their school and asked them to do some research.

In groups, they chose from a list of animals that are known to exist in the area and found out about their preferred habitats, and what they needed to thrive.

This information will be used to feed into the design of the garden – incorporating the elements that were identified.

For instance, they learned that White Admiral butterflies like brambles and shady woodland.

We are now planning a trip to the garden with the children to put some of their ideas into practice.

The Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust are also helping us with the design.
