Abbey Line passenger journeys increase over the past year
According to the latest data from the Office of Rail and Road
Stations on the Abbey Line running into Watford Junction have shown increases in passenger journeys over the past year – all except Watford North, which has remained largely the same.
The latest data from the Office of Rail and Road estimates that the six stations together hosted 16,300 more passenger journeys than in the previous year.
We hope that trend will continue in the coming years – as greater reliability returns to the service.

The range of communities that the Abbey Line serves is highlighted by this new data, with Park Street station retaining its title as the least-used station in Hertfordshire and Watford Junction station narrowly taking the top spot for our county’s most-used station.
The latest findings estimate that there were just under 6.5 million passenger journeys through Watford Junction between April 2023 and March 2024 – nearly a million more than the previous year.
This is still a way off peak-usage figures of 8.5 million pre-COVID, but follows a continuing upward trend.
Last year’s leader, St Albans City station, was a close runner-up with 6.3 million passenger journeys.

It is great to see an increase in rail usage in Great Britain overall – with a total of 1,610 million passenger journeys made between April 2023 and March 2024 – an increase of 16% from the previous year.
