Abbey Line CRP Becomes a White Ribbon Supporter
The campaign to end violence against women and girls
The Abbey Line Community Rail Partnership (CRP) has strengthened its commitment to fostering a safe and supportive environment for passengers and the wider community by formally becoming a White Ribbon Supporter—aligning with the national campaign to end violence against women and girls.
This step builds on the partnership’s continuing involvement in White Ribbon Day initiatives. For the previous two years, Abbey Line CRP volunteers and colleagues have joined a London Northwestern Railway–led effort encouraging passengers at Watford Junction and St Albans Abbey stations to make the White Ribbon Promise, distributing over 200 ribbons and pledge cards to travellers. The campaign’s theme in 2025, #WeSpeakUp, focused on encouraging men to use their voices to help create safer, more respectful communities.
By becoming an official White Ribbon Supporter, the CRP underscores its dedication to promoting respect and safety across the St Albans – Watford route. This commitment aligns with a long‑standing ethos of community engagement demonstrated through projects such as community gardens, accessibility advocacy, local partnerships, and a broad programme of outreach activities across the line. These ongoing efforts reflect the partnership’s philosophy of “connecting communities with their railway” and “Being Kind Along the Line”.
A Message from the Chair
Cllr. Steve Cavinder, Chair of the Abbey Line CRP, shared his thoughts on the CRP’s new supporter status:
“I’m pleased that the Abbey Line Community Rail Partnership has become a White Ribbon supporter organisation, joining many others in encouraging men to become positive role models and prevent male violence against women. I’m very keen that we play our part in raising awareness, engaging with men and boys to call out abusive and sexist behaviour among their families, friends, and colleagues, to actively support a culture of equality and respect.”
Looking Ahead
As a White Ribbon Supporter, the Abbey Line CRP plans to continue raising awareness, championing respectful behaviour, and working closely with partners to ensure stations, services, and community initiatives reflect the values of equality and safety.
Passengers and supporters can expect to see continued engagement during national awareness days, expanded collaborations with local organisations, and further opportunities to take the White Ribbon Promise throughout the year.
