Station volunteer

To look after our stations by doing station checks. This entails updating the noticeboard, check the ticket machines are working, test the emergency and information machines, check passenger information screen is working, all station signs are in-situ, litter picks if required and report any damage / concerns. The station checklist will be provided.

To manage our community noticeboards currently at Watford North, Garston, St Albans Abbey, How Wood and Park Street stations. Change posters as required, manage leaflet rack at Watford junction and any identified distribution outlets. Help identify shops / locations near to each station what kind of leaflets they have and if we can display ours there. Help with promotional work for our events and projects.

The station volunteer role requires a commitment of 2 days a month to suit you

Gardening volunteer

To tend to the gardens and planters at our stations. Audit and report any plants that need replanting, progress of the gardens and plants and ensuring they are looked after all year round. Current planting stations are Bricket Wood, St Albans Abbey, How Wood, Park Street, the garden at Garston and the Bee friendly planters at Watford junction. You may also be required to attend to the garden on days when the garden is open to the community for group visits. Help with promotional work for our events and projects.

The Gardening volunteer role requires a commitment of minimum 6 gardening events a year, to cover weeding, planting, adding new bulbs, tending to the plants fortnightly. These events may be 1 or 2 days depending on the job to be done.

Event volunteer

To volunteer to work at our community engagement events such as Santa and Halloween trains, summer funday and other events we may hold during the year which may include promotional stands locally or at events nationwide.

We hold a minimum of three events a year, so for this role we require a commitment of minimum 3 days per year usually in May, October or December. Event dates are planned in advance so you will be advised

Why volunteer with us

By volunteering with us, you will be joining the Abbey Line Community Rail Partnership family of volunteers. Volunteers are important for the continued success of Community rail partnerships across the country. We have an annual volunteer day each year to meet, socialise, update and plan our projects for the year. The train operator also holds volunteer and stakeholder events during the year which you will be invited to attend. Each year we will also reward you with a pair of train tickets* to explore the London Northwestern railway route.

*Terms and conditions apply. Train tickets are rewarded to volunteers who actively volunteer with us for at least a year and is awarded on merit. The decision to reward our volunteers and station adopters is made by the Partnerships’ steering group. The Partnership reserves the right to change or withdraw the rewards given at any time. The rewards given are subject to availability.  This is not open to Organisations / Companies who are doing ad hoc volunteer days.
